The Great Atomic Bombreflector

A multi-stage world project to create a device to eradicate the phenomenon of war by the Power of Genius
Video by Cristian Tapies

The Great Atomic Bombreflector is an international scientific, artistic, research, and engineering project by ORTA, created to demonstrate the feasibility of eradicating war through the forces of genius, the power of theater, and the energy of Atomic Inhumanity.

The project's ultimate goal is the launch of the Great Atomic Bombreflector—a spectacular, ritualistic theatrical event of unprecedented historical scale, scheduled for 2030 in Kazakhstan.

The Great Atomic Bombreflector has been in development since 2023 through Spectacular Experiments, Experiences, workshops, installations, and research centers around the world, engaging the maximum number of participants, spectators, collaborators, and partners in the creation of the Bombreflector.

Today we have held the following events:

2021—Zen-extravaganza "The First Atomic Bombreflector": First prototype of the Atomic Bombreflector (Meyerhold Center, pre-war Moscow)

2022—LAI-PI-CHU-PLEE-LAPA Center for the New Genius: Discovery of Genion particles (first Kazakhstan pavilion at the Venice Biennale, Venice)

2022—"Spectacular Experiments in the Temporary Temple of the New Genius": Collective activation of Genoins (first Kazakhstan pavilion at the Venice Biennale, Venice)

2024—"Spectacular Experiments of The Great Atomic Bombreflector": First prototype of the Bombreflector ritual section (La MaMa Theatre, New York)

2025—Seoul "New Genius Experience" and Seoul "New Genius Temple": Collective and individual projection of Genions (13th Seoul Mediacity Biennale, Seoul)

2025—Workshop on the New Genius Experience for Seoul-based performers (Seoul Museum of Arts, Seoul)

2025—Berlin "New Genius Experience": Further collective projection of Genions (Voices Festival, Berlin)

Background, prerequisites, mechanism of operation

The Great Atomic Bombreflector's primary starting point is the Atomic Inhumanity—a horrific legacy of 40 years of nuclear testing in Kazakhstan. From 1949 to 1989, more than 630 nuclear "devices" were detonated across its territory, turning the world's ninth-largest country into one vast testing ground, a fact that remains largely unmentioned today. Un-extracted, unreflected, forgotten the Atomic Inhumanity invisibly poisons the earth, people, memory.

It needs to be extracted and transformed so that it doesn’t lead to new inhumanity, but used for the world’s upliftment.

The Great Atomic Bombreflector will become the first device that will harness this energy of Atomic Inhumanity by extracting it, transforming it into creative energy, and using it as fuel for the eradication of war.

The prerequisites for its implementation are science fiction, the power of theater, as exemplified by the Bolshevik Revolution, and Sergei Kalmykov's New Genius.

The power of science fiction to define the world is easily demonstrated by the fact that the world we live in today was largely defined by science fiction writers of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Space travel, robots, computers, mobile communications, all manner of scientific and technological inventions—these images were all imagined by writers who weren't engineers or scientists, but simply visionaries.

The power of theater is clearly evident in one particular event—the reenactment of the October Bolshevik Revolution of 1917, staged by director Nikolai Evreinov in 1920. The Evreinov's spectacle became such a powerful shock to participants and spectators that it replaced the real revolution in global memory, allowing the Bolsheviks to win the civil war and remain in power for the next 70 years, reshaping the world’s history forever.

The possibility of creating the Atomic Bombreflectors was declared back in the 1930s by the first Kazakhstani avant-garde artist, writer, inventor, thinker, and the Genius of the Absolute Interplanetary Category, Sergey Kalmykov (1891-1967). He left behind a vast corpus of texts containing ideas, inventions, theories, and poetry, from which ORTA develops its theories: the New Genius Theory, the Theory of Universal Composition, and the Theory of Genion Particles. Most importantly, Kalmykov left irrefutable evidence of the validity of his ideas and theories.

In 2021, ORTA began implementing these developments in the Atomic Inhumanity. In 2023, it officially took shape in the Planetary Project: The Great Atomic Bombreflector.

The mechanism of The Great Atomic Bombreflector's operation is that this device operates in the realm of Universal Composition—a mysterious dimension that lies beneath the visible world. It contains the sources of all visible phenomena.

It contains the core of the phenomenon of war.

This core must be dissolved, absorbed, erased, and burned away—just as a tumor is destroyed by a beam of charged particles—and thus war will disappear from our world.

The Great Atomic Bombreflector is a device for such irradiation of the core of war by a powerful beam of Genions—the particles of Genius that are present in every human.

To create this incredibly complex device, we need the participation of the maximum number of thinkers, engineers, artists—everyone willing to contribute their ideas and Genions. Then we can launch The Great Atomic Bombreflector, demonstrate its feasibility, and inspire the creation of Bombreflectors around the world, finally eradicating war and triggering a chain reaction of universal genius.

The Magician and the Sorceress Against the Atomic Bomb (en)

This transfiguration repeats several times, hypnotizing the audience and inspiring trust in the transformation they, too, are about to undergo. A voice rhythmically reads out the coordinates of nuclear explosions in Kazakhstan. We vibrate under a rumble that mimics bomb blasts. The launch of the Bombreflector is announced—an immaterial device apparently composed of our fears, grief, and desires, transforming the energy of decay into the energy of creation. This new energy is directed toward the emanation within us of genions—the primordial elements of genius.

Without Claims to Purity: The Great Atomic Bombreflector and Its Designers (en)

What does it mean to be a test subject for power, which, outside this concrete example, might actually name the catastrophic state of being a human-subject under state sovereignty generally? If the concept of a "state of emergency" can be applied to the Semipalatinsk nuclear tragedy, how can this trauma be turned into a "real" state of emergency, to borrow Walter Benjamin's encouragement to take up revolutionary activity? What does such a "real" state of emergency look like? Not a concrete emergency, but rather something that demonstrates the hidden paradigms of political space that are crucial to modernity.

In this essay I consider these questions through a discussion of a series of "Spectacular Experiments" that inspired the long-term artistic project Planetary Program of the Great Atomic Bombreflector, which was launched last spring at La MaMa Experimental Theatre Club in New York.
