Temporary Temple of the New Genius is an adaptive performative and architectural environment developed for Kazakhstan’s first national pavilion at the 59th Venice Biennale.

Conceived in response to disrupted logistics caused by Russia’s war against Ukraine, the project emerged when the works intended for the pavilion did not arrive in time for the opening week, making it impossible to present the originally conceived Centre for the New Genius. Rather than leaving the pavilion empty, ORTA applied the Method of Composition to construct an alternative environment.

Built from cardboard, aluminum foil, and other readily available materials sourced from local hardware stores, the installation functioned as both spatial structure and performative system. Within this environment, Guide-Performer Alexandra Morozova presented the week-long performance Sacred Expositions, while ORTA’s Spectacular Experiments were conducted twice daily throughout the opening week
